Aimee Zeng

I build machine learning models for environmental data, from rainfall fields and satellite imagery to land use, and I want that work to help conservation.

Looking for full-time roles starting summer 2027 in machine learning, data science, and geospatial work.

AI Engineer Intern, AI Team

GlobiFYE

Designed and implemented an AI Sales Intelligence Platform for sales reps to analyze caller intent and deal signals across the full sales funnel using RAG, LangChain, Next.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL, orchestrating automated inbound/outbound routing to an AI voice agent or human rep, live transcription, and post-call semantic analysis for sales coaching.

  • Benchmarked STT, LLM, and TTS providers against that budget across concurrent sessions.
  • Designed the Supabase schema and persistence layer for recordings, transcripts, and call analysis.
  • Integrated SIP telephony so the pipeline handles live inbound and outbound phone calls, not just browser sessions.
  • Moved the LLM layer from the Groq SDK to LangChain without changing any downstream callers.

Machine Learning Intern

Butterflo Inc.

Rent prediction on US large-scale rental property data.

  • Built Python pipelines for data ingestion, model training, and inference.
  • Trained and tuned XGBoost models with Optuna and deployed the best one for inference.
  • Extended rent prediction from metro-level to cluster-level geographies for finer spatial granularity.

Data Science Intern

AIA Group
  • Built medical lapse and claims prediction models (random forest, GLM/logistic) reaching about 0.81 AUC.
  • Identified key risk drivers through hypothesis testing and turned them into risk scores to support client retention.
  • Built an R Shiny app for liability cash-flow replication that optimizes asset weights under risk constraints.

Climate downscaling with foundation embeddings

Machine learning research

Built a probabilistic model that downscales ERA5 25 km precipitation grid to 1.5 km in four recursive 2× steps, using AlphaEarth satellite embeddings.

  • Developed a Conditional Flow Matching model (U-Net with cross-attention) and XGBoost baselines that produce calibrated ensembles rather than a single guess.
  • Engineered a pipeline joining ERA5/ERA5-Land, PRISM, and a 400 GB+ embedding store streamed from cloud storage, with multi-phase training on NCSA Delta AI.
  • Evaluated with RMSE, CRPS, coverage, and spread-skill against 800 m PRISM observations.

Biodiversity-aware solar siting

Personal project, Texas and Oklahoma

Solar farms need a lot of open land, and the cheapest land isn't always the land wildlife can spare. This tool picks sites that balance energy against habitat cost across seven wildlife guilds, formulated as a binary integer program on a 1 km grid. A second phase will add deep learning forecasts of land-use change.

Multisensor remote sensing for cover crop biomass

Course project, team of four

Cover crops protect Midwest soil over winter, but measuring how much they grew means clipping plots by hand. We estimate biomass from Sentinel-2/HLS optical imagery, Sentinel-1 radar, proximal sensor readings, and PRISM climate data, trained against ground samples from the Great Lakes Cover Crops Project.

Causal effects of phthalate exposures

Undergraduate statistics research

People are exposed to several phthalates at once, at different levels, and the exposures interact. I work on estimating how those combinations affect middle aged women's menopausal hot flashes from observational data.

  • Applied factorial balancing weights to estimate causal main and interaction effects.
  • Developed a framework for multi-level factors and extended it to incomplete designs, where some treatment combinations are never observed.
  • Validated the framework with simulation and bootstrap inference.

Deforestation and carbon sequestration at Baima Snow Mountain

First-author paper, Atlantis Press (ICHESS 2021)

I did research on Yunnan snub-nosed monkey, an endangered primate, whose habitat was losing in the Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve. I interviewed villagers and the reserve's guards, then mapped the reserve in QGIS and found deforested land inside the core zone, the part that's supposed to be the most protected.

  • Located three deforested patches in the core zone, 0.674 km² in total, from satellite imagery in QGIS.
  • Combined GlobBiomass forest biomass data with carbon storage estimates for cold-temperate coniferous forest to estimate what reforesting those patches could sequester: about 4,800 tons of COâ‚‚.
  • Priced that carbon on China's new national carbon market at roughly 239,000 RMB, as a way to fund reforestation and the reserve's underpaid guards.

Bird Viewer

A bird sighting platform with a MySQL database and Django REST API: full CRUD, search, and location-based recommendations, with stored procedures and triggers handling account deletion and group lifecycles.

Jan – Apr 2025. MySQL, Django

Hermes

A Django and React platform for real-time financial data, with authentication and interactive charts for equities, crypto, and economic indicators.

Web Developer

EyeSpy.org

EyeSpy serves the blind and low-vision community, and like most small nonprofits it runs on grants. I helped build a website that puts the whole grant workflow in one place: searching for grants, applying, and drafting proposals.
